Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective and popular evidenced-based treatment intervention that can help relieve a variety of symptoms such as: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, sleep disorders, anger, and substance abuse. CBT aims for change by helping clients observe the way they think and react to situations that cause emotional distress. CBT effects change by first examining the facts of the situation, past patterns of thinking and reacting, and explores alternative ways of thinking and addressing those distressing situations. We are sometimes unaware of other choices in how we perceive distressing situations and often we can become trapped in negative patterns of thinking and reacting. CBT helps us to step-back from those distressing situations and examine them more objectively. We can then begin to shift away from ineffectual ways of coping with circumstances that often drain us, and begin discovering more empowering ways of responding.
